Crystal Okorafor

Crystal Okorafor is an experienced trial attorney who defends companies and individuals in all aspects of criminal and civil proceedings.

In 2021, Crystal was appointed by City of Houston’s Mayor Sylvester Turner to lead the Office of Policing Reform and Accountability within the Office of the Inspector General as the Deputy Inspector General.  In that role, she conducted investigations into the police department and ensured that officers complied with constitution rights of the individuals they are sworn to protect.  She also conducted independent investigations and audits into the Houston Police Department, which is comprised of over 6000 employees. Her investigation included but were not limited to the following claims: discrimination, wage theft, ethics violation and use of force allegations.

Prior to, accepting this appointment, Crystal was a felony chief prosecutor at the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.  As a prosecutor, she had a multitude of cases ranging from Driving While Intoxicated to Capital Murder, with exceptional results.  During her tenure, she was a member of an elite squad of prosecutors in the Major Crimes division handling long term investigations with local, state, and federal law enforcement. While a prosecutor, she handled thousands of cases in every aspect from grand jury to verdict.

Crystal is an alumna of Thurgood Marshall School of Law, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas at Austin. She is licensed to practice law in the state of Texas and the Southern District of Texas.
